Fushimi Inari Taisha is famous for its beautiful torii tunnel. This shrine has approximately 10,000 torii gates. Particularly famous is the “Senbon Torii”, which has about 800 torii gates lined up closely together. If you just want to see the main hall and Senbon Torii gates of this shrine, you don’t need navigation. This is because this shrine is located right next to the station, and you can easily find the main shrine and Senbon Torii gates even without a map.
However, this shrine is spread over the entire mountain of Mt. Inari, which is about 230 meters (760 feet) above sea level. If you want to know more about this shrine, you’ll have to pass through a tunnel of nearly 10,000 torii gates to get to the top of the mountain and back. The time required is approximately 1.5 to 2 hours. Many destination boards are written in Japanese. You may get lost at a fork in the road or lose track of where you are.
